A portion of the Hypostyle Hall that has seen the greatest devastation. Earthquakes have struck Egypt many times over the last two millennia. It was scarcely 1,000 years ago that the 2,700 year old Lighthouse of Alexandria was razed to the ground in a crippling quake. Cairo has also seen its share, which resulted in the snatching of limestone from the Pyramids of Giza. All too often have the people of Egypt chosen to destroy and obliterate the ancient temples and sacred sites in lieu of other building materials.
