"Karnak
at Sunrise" by David Roberts. (circa 1830)
The
Arabs in the foreground are standing upon the roof of the Temple of Khonsu. The
seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth pylons can be seen in ruins to the right in the
painting. Note how after nearly two centuries since scene was painted, how little
Karnak Temple has changed and yet, it has experienced a rebirth as its ancient
treasures and secrets have slowly been unearthed from the grasp of the sand, from
which time has no meaning.
